Home!

During the summer you’ve got two choices: 1. Find a place around school. 2. Go home.

This can be a difficult decision.. Do I stay around school and work and take classes, and be on my own with my new friends? Or do I go home and work at my old job with my old friends but save money by living at home?

I choose to stay around school each year.. I’ve basically made Topeka my home from the day I moved off to school..

It varies from student to student I think.. Some go home every chance they get, some go home the first summer and stay the rest.. But I do know.. You should definitely cut the cord before you graduate.. Just sayin.

This all came to me while I was driving home for the first time in awhile.. Hah.

Have a good rest of the week! NSO Friday! Wuuuu!

Pro Tip: The Night Shift.

Having a job (or jobs) while attending school is something most students deal with. Whether it be to pay for classes, pay for a social life, or just because.

Either way it’s something most students have to work into their already pretty packed schedules. There are different ways about going about this. Having a flexible job is a starter. But what about maybe working nights? Sounds perfect right? You won’t have to worry about your work schedule conflicting with your school and social life!

Yeah, working nights may sound ok. More money, dealing with fewer customers, free dress code, listening to your own music, and free days. However, that last part -free days- isn’t exactly true.

Working nights is tough. It’s s complete schedule change, while you may be thinking “Oh Nick, I don’t sleep anyway! So it’s fine!” yeah, that’s what I thought too. Turns out it takes quite a bit out of you and trying to keep up with your day schedule becomes a harder and more difficult task as the night shifts continue.

Moral of the Story: While nights may sound appealing at first. Be cautious and remember classes should come first. If you feel yourself falling behind, think about a change.

Spring!

So even though the weather has been awesome lately.. I’m still not sure if I believe it or not.. I still keep thinking it’s going to be cold the next day.. :/

In other news.. SOC stuff is coming up quick.. The most exciting time of the year I’d say! I sound like a nerd.. But orientation days are awesome! And I’m excited to start meeting new students and their parents/guests!

And other other news.. This semester is over in like.. A month.. That’s insane.

Schedules.

The time is approaching to register for the fall semester… CRAZY! I don’t know about anyone else but when it comes to scheduling classes.. I like to plan everything out.. Like.. A few semesters in advance..

Anyways.. This semester I stacked my schedule.. Only tuesday Thursday’s.. Which is awesome when you have a job to fit in.. However, it leads to a major increase in procrastination, you forget what campus looks like, and when important things happen on those days.. You’re screwed and have to miss them..

Moral of the story.. Put thought into your schedule selection!

So. Busy.

As you can see, I’ve been slacking in the blog posts lately.. Things have gotten pretty crazy!

Spring Break was last week, It was alright, worked the whole time and then went to Baltimore for a conference. It was the ACPA (American College Professionals Association) conference, they have a two day conference before the main one starts only for undergrads.. I was lucky enough to get sponsored to attend the undergrad portion! It was awesome! I got to meet some really cool students from other schools around the nation also aspiring to be Student Affairs professionals, I got to learn a lot about different Grad Schools and what to look for, and I got to learn more just general info on what its like to be a Student Affairs professional. If was a weekend FULL of information, but it got me really excited to get on with my life and start my career!

Other news, Classes are going alright, its getting close to the end of the semester so things are going to get tough and stressful.. Lots of papers, studying and no sleeping are in the near future.

Hope everyone else is having a good semester!

Student Government

This week is the student government elections, from Wednesday to Friday.

There are two campaigns running:

Taylor McGown/Michael Kitowski and Rizki Aljupri/Nic Campbell

I urge every student to vote! It’s really simple, just go to my.washburn.edu and there will be a link on the main page, you can vote from anywhere.

Both candidates have websites you can check out, http://www.rizkiandnic.com and http://www.mkforwsga.com

Check them both out and vote for who you think is right!

Work..

This semester has consisted of work. That is basically it. I work two jobs, one in the mornings/nights and one in the evenings. I only have classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I work the other days of the week.. I’m averaging about 60-65 hours of work a week, on top of the 15 hours of classes I’m taking.

Yeah, it’s a lot.. but I’m enjoying it… weird? Yeah.. Well.. I like structure, I like schedules, and I like money.. so it all works out I guess.. My social life is gone, I see hardly anyone since I’m only on campus two days, and I work the rest of the time.. which.. yeah.. its tough, I used to be quite a social person.. so this change took a little for me to handle.. now its kinda just whatever..

anyways.. Class in a few.. gotta get some studying done.
