Thanksgiving

So today is thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!

I hope everyone enjoys their quality time with their families and friends and whoever else you are spending your time with!

Of course I am thankful for all I have in my life. A great supportive family, amazing friends that provide the best kind of times, awesome crazy fraternity brothers, and of course Washburn for providing me with these great opportunities to do everything and meet everyone I have.

Have a great day everyone!

Enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm: strong excitement of feeling.” Enthusiasm is one of my favorite themes. I’ve always believed that one can do anything as long as they show how much it means to them. I don’t care what you are doing, if you show you are excited about it. Others will be as well. Its contagious. If you show you are having a great time, it makes others want to have that exact same experience.

We all know Washburn is a ‘Division Two’ school. What does that mean? It means we aren’t as big as say.. KU or K-State. However. Just because we don’t have those numbers, doesn’t give anyone an excuse to not support or school and show pride and spirit for being THE WASHBURN ICHABODS. Having a smaller school means we have the opportunity to learn more and receive a more personal education than the previously mentioned schools. But that still doesn’t change the school spirit. We have a great athletic program, that I feel does not receive the recognition they deserve. That is one thing I’ve pushed for so hard within my time at THE Washburn University, School Spirit.. And you know what… I’ve helped create that. I don’t care what anyone else says, people can judge how they want, but we have school spirit, we enjoy Washburn, and we are here to show it.

Livin’ Life.

So, I was up until 5AM this morning.. Working on a paper for my Abnormal Psych class. To everyone who reads this. Stop Procrastinating.

Although. I’m not going to lie, some of the best times I’ve had have happened because something was put off.. My roommate was also in the same boat last night, so we ended up working on them together. It was probably the most fun I’ve had while writing a paper. We ended up running out of printer ink, so we went to Walmart at 4am, got ink and Maple Bacon. Came back home 4:30, printed papers and ate bacon.

I didn’t mention however that we haven’t yet turned on our heat in our house.. So.. These last couple weeks we have spent wearing every jacket we have, 5 pairs of socks, and every blanket we can find. So while we were writing papers last night/this morning we had like a million candles going to try and create heat. I don’t think it actually gave us any heat, but.. It looked cool! Eventually we’ll turn our heat on.. maybe.

I now have a second job at a Candy store in the mall.. Yep. I’m that guy. I’m actually pretty excited about it. I work at the desk of the residential halls currently, but it wasn’t keeping up with the bills.. so for the last month i’ve been stressing on trying to find another job.. this one randomly came up.. pretty excited though.. You should all come buy candy from me. hah.

Also, No Shave November is coming along alright.. Honestly I’m getting kiiiiinda tired of looking like I’m too poor for a razor.. but.. I’m sticking through..

Anyways, I have a history test at 4:10. I need to study. I love the College Life!

P.S. I’ll leave you with this.. This last weekend.. Definitely in the Top 5. I’ve got the greatest friends.

November.

First off, despite what the weather is currently telling us, it IS in fact November. November is actually one of my favorite months but it is also one of my least favorite months.

Thanksgiving is coming up quite quick, one of my favorite holidays occurring in November! Traditions with my family is really important to me, we always have huge dinners with home cooked delicious food, something most people don’t get very often anymore with everything being so fast these days there is never time to sit down and enjoy REAL food. Thanksgiving presents us with this one opportunity to sit down and enjoy that food and the family that most of us have left to continue our lives. I think before I moved away to college I took holidays for granted, it was just another day I’d spend with my family, except, I would really have to spend the day with my family.. No video games or anything.. Now, I WANT to go home, I want to see my family and spend as much time with them throughout the day, sitting in the living room watching TV almost about to fall asleep after the HUGE meal.. I really appreciate the time I get to spend with them now. Its coming up! and I can’t wait!

Also in November… NO SHAVE NOVEMBER!!!!!!!!!! One of the best times of the year.. Men can be Men, and we have an excuse for it! We are on day 10 now, and I’ve got a pretty decent beard going! Within my group of friends we’ve named our beards.. Mine has been dubbed “Beckham”. Which just completely made my day/week/month! There is actually a pretty good amount of guys doing it this year compared to the years in the past.. I’m just hoping I can make it through the rest of the month.. We’ve got 20 days to go!

Two things however I don’t really approve of with November, 1. COLD 2. Christmas Music. 1. I hate the cold, I’d much rather be warm and tan than bundled up and freezing! Luckily this November has been completely different.. The end of October was freezing, but now, I’m wearing a T-Shirt. I like this. 2. Christmas Music should never start on November 1st, it should begin December 1st, when it is Christmas season. I apologize to everyone that lives for Christmas music, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it.. I just don’t want it so early..

This turned into a really long post.. If you made it all the way through, THANKS! If you made it halfway and then read this, 50%, and if you just made it to the page.. well.. Good Job for you too!

Daylight Savings Time

Today is Daylight Savings Time Day. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

Yesterday was Family day at Washburn, my family came up, it was fun spending the day with them.. Very relaxing. Usually I sit in the BodSquad section at the football games and I’m all painted up going crazy having a great time making sure I lose my voice by the end of the game.. This game.. I sat with my parents in the regular seating.. It was interesting.. Lets just say… It made me appreciate the BodSquad section a whole lot more! Good News though.. Washburn KILLED Emporia State 42 – 0! Prettttty epic. (Emporia State is like.. our BIGGEST Rivals) So that should keep them in their place for awhile.. đŸ˜‰

This week is going to be the first week I’ve had in over 4 weeks that I don’t have much going on in terms of events, I’m stoked. Although I do have a big paper to write for Abnormal Psych.. bleh. But I’ll manage.

Also, a side note. Don’t forget about old friends, stay in contact, even if its a simple text, don’t let friends fall out of contact and keep a nice variety of friends!

That is all for now.

Philanthropies Galore!

LIVESTRONG in case you’ve been in a box for the last couple years is a foundation that raises money for testicular cancer. This week from November 1st to November 6th the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Washburn is sponsoring a LIVESTRONG week. Each day there has been an event to raise money for the LIVESTRONG foundation. We’ve sold T-Shirts and LIVESTRONG bracelets throughout the week, on Monday we had a bowling night, wednesday we had a Walnut Cracking contest, Thursday we have a Volleyball tournament, and friday we have a 50/50 drawing at the football game. Before the week had even started we raised around $500 dollars just from the Pre-Tabling in the Union.. We are expecting a really good turn out throughout the week, hoping to double that with the main week!

Also going on this week philanthropy wise, The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority on campus, sponsored a Cold Stone Night, many of the Zeta girls worked at Cold Stone and a certain amount of the profits go to Breast Cancer Awareness. The Delta Gamma sorority at Washburn is starting their Service for Sight philanthropy this week as well. Wednesday they have their Annual Pancake Feed and Saturday after the football game they will have their Anchor Splash activity!

It’s a great week for Philanthropy!!!
